Skald evaluation study

Cookies and browser storage

Cookies and local storage allow a website to keep information in your browser. Skald uses the following categories of cookies and browser storage. We do not use advertising or third-party marketing cookies.

Essential cookies

These cookies are required to record your study consent and keep you signed in. They cannot be disabled while using the tool.

CookiePurposeDuration
skald-study-consentRecords that you consented to the evaluation study and when you accepted.Up to 1 year
Better Auth session cookie, normally better-auth.session_tokenKeeps you signed in after you create an account or log in (Better Auth session).Up to 7 days

Evaluation analytics (PostHog)

When PostHog is enabled in the deployment, we initialise it after you have consented to the study and signed in. PostHog may use cookies prefixed with ph_ and related local storage. This storage contains identifiers and state used to link your browser activity to evaluation events, feature flags, surveys, and session recordings.

Session recordings include how you use the application and may include narrative content shown in the editor. PostHog storage is kept for up to 1 year, or until it is cleared when you withdraw from the study. It is not used for advertising. See how we use your data for more information.

Application settings in local storage

Skald stores interface and editor preferences locally in your browser so that they are available when you return. This includes:

  • graph editor controls, including snap-to-grid settings, auto-layout values, and whether helper lines are enabled;
  • open and active conversation tabs and saved graph view positions;
  • panel sizes and layouts in the graph editor and knowledge graph;
  • expanded and collapsed knowledge graph sidebar sections; and
  • whether the study task tracker is minimised.

These settings remain in your browser until you clear the site's storage or withdraw from the study. They are not sent to Skald as study data by being stored locally, although your use of the related controls may be included in evaluation events and session recordings.

Clearing browser storage

You can delete Skald's cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Doing so may sign you out, reset your interface preferences, or require you to provide consent again before using the tool.

Selecting “Withdraw from study” from the user menu signs you out and clears Skald's cookies and browser storage on that browser. This stops further collection but does not by itself delete study data that has already been collected. You can request full deletion as explained on the data-use page.
